In anticipation of the opening of the National Heritage Board’s newest heritage institution, the Indian Heritage Centre (IHC) in early May 2015, as well as its first IHC CultureFest, world renowned composer-vocalist Shankar Mahadevan presented a special curtain-raiser performance on 2nd May 2015, at the Esplanade.
The award-winning singer and composer, who has enthralled millions around the world with his strong vocals and well-received compositions, premiered an original work entitled “Kaleidoscope: Musical Heritage of India”. The one-night-only concert will featured specially created compositions that weave in the storyline of IHC CultureFest and its theme, Kaleidoscope of Cultures. The line-up was a blend of genres including Classical Carnatic, Hindustani, Folk, and other musical traditions such as Qawwalis, Thumris, Abhang as well as Jazz and Rock.
Shankar’s talented sons, Siddharth and Shivam, and a group of highly-skilled musicians joined him to bring the audience on a pan-Indian journey of musical traditions and to experience the rich cultural heritage of India.
